Review 2007 Disney/ABC Fellowship Bios Before You Write Your Own
Jun 20th, 2007 by DanO
The Disney/ABC TV Writing Fellowship released a press release four months ago where they profiled the writers accepted into the program based on last year’s submissions. I’m not sure if these short bios were the ones submitted by the Fellows or if Disney wrote them, but they are a good example of how to write an interesting one.
Read them all and think about how you are approaching your own bio for submission. Is it too generic? Does it speak to your passion for writing? Does it highlight your past writing expereince outside of television?
Also, gleaned from the press release, here’s a breakdown of the the spec scripts submitted by the winners:
- Grey’s Anatomy - 1
- House - 1
- Rescue Me - 1
- Without A Trace - 1
- My Name Is Earl - 2
- The Office - 1
- The Simpsons - 1
- Two And A Half Men - 1
Reading through their bios, I see many of them have jobs in other fields while pursuing their writing. I went to a WGA panel the other night on "Surviving As A Screenwriter" and heard 12 successful screenwriters talk about their careers. Just like these Disney Fellows, they all had many different jobs on their road to becoming writers. I’ll be writing up the notes on the panel later this week.
