Registering Your Script For Television Fellowship Submissions
Jun 26th, 2007 by DanO
The Disney/ABC TV Writing Fellowship has a critical requirement many writers haven’t come across before: you need to register your script before you submit it to them. Here are three commonly accepted ways to register your script.
- Writers Guild of America, West - available in person at their Los Angeles office, by mail or online.
- Writers Guild of America, East - same as the west: in person, by mail or online.
- Library of Congress - The Copyright office only accepts registration by mail and though the registration takes effect when they receive your package, it takes up to 4 months to issue a receipt with a registration code.
Since we are less than a week out from the ABC/Disney Fellowship deadline and registration is required, you should either go in person or use the online service of the WGA. You don’t have to be a member of the Guild to use the service. Check out WGAWest’s FAQ on script registration for more information about what registration does and does not do for you.
Definitely avoid the Library of Congress method because you need not only registration, but proof of registration in your submission packet.
