Gum Drop! from Chillingo is a new release with lots of flavor. The premise is easy to understand for the kids and it’s extremely engaging.
In Gum Drop! you have to match the words listed on the individual gum drops to the pictures on the play grid. The playing grid starts out as 3×3 and grows to 5×5. The gum drops grow larger as time passes and reset to their original size whenever you match their word with a picture.
You only ever have 5 gum drops with words on them so when you have to hunt through 25 squares to find a picture that matches one of the 5 words while trying to keep the gum drops reaching the top of the screen it can get intense. There are also NINE languages you can play the game in as well as twenty-five awards to earn.
Pros
Easy to learn, easy to play, hard to put down.
This game does a good job of teaching kids to match words to pictures and definitely drives hand/eye/brain coordination.
The graphics are fun for kids and the sound effects and music are upbeat.
Nine languages means that this game can also be used to build some vocabulary in other languages if you desire. Try having your middle or high schooler play in the language they are studying in school.
Over one hundred picture/word matches.
Cons
I really have no complaints about the game. I do hope that the vocabulary expands with future updates to keep the game fresh over the long haul.
Rating
Gum Drop! earns four stars out of five for its well executed play and for being both complex (nine languages and one hundred combos) and simple enough for kids to play easily.
Danomatic Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
